i can see pics and videos in the collections and if i select one of them they
show up in the preview window, but as soon as i drop them into the storyboard
and try to playback the storyboard the preview window stays blank. sound, but
no video. i have no idea why that would be. anyone want to take a crack at
that one?

thanks for the timely response. what you've suggested doe not seem to be the
problem. no matter what the source file is, as soon as it is placed into the
storyboard, it will not playback.

Try this

minimize the window or switch to another window as the active window.
Now switch back to Moviemaker... can you see it now?

After looking and trying several things for a couple hours, I still can't
find anything that seems to help. One new interesting thing though, if i
just throw clips and audio and whatnot into the storyboard and save it to my
computer, it plays and you can see everything when it plays in windows media
player..... i'm still lost.

I'm also having that problem. It doesn't matter what the source file is, i
can preview it with both video and audio on the clipboard, but as soon as i
drag it onto the storyboard and play that i can only get sound. If i save the
project as a videofile the video will show in media player, but what good is
that since i can't edit the movie of i cant see it in movie maker!!! Never
had codec trouble or anything like that in other programs by the way.
