I have two subnets connected by two routers. frequently,

subnet, and not the local subnet. then, the local subnet
will appear at random intervals.
Network places uses NetBIOS broadcasts or WINS to populate. Most routers
don't pass NetBIOS broadcasts and you'll need WINS to populate network
places. Even if the router passes NetBIOS broadcasts it is no guarantee to
fully populate network places. NetBIOS broadcasts are not reliable to fully
populate network places.
Are you using WINS?
I suggest you set up a WINS server at each location, point the clients at
each site to the local WINS server, then set the two WINS servers up as
replicating partners.
