We set up a wireless home network. It has a router which connects us
to the Internet and the ethernet.
There are three computers in the network, which are all connected via
WiFi, using LinkSys.
Here is a schematic of the configuration:
computer1----WirelessRouter----DSL_MODEM---PhoneLine
Computer2--WirelessAdapter
Computer3--WirelessAdapter
The dashed lines, ---, indicate hardwired connections. The adapters
communicate via spread spectrum with the router.
Okay. All of the computers are running on WinXP, and all can use the
Internet fine.
Computers 2 and 3 can access each others files and printers.
The Problem:
For some reason we can't see, nor access the files nor printer for
computer1, nor can computer1 see the files/printers on the other
computers.
Pinging works fine for computers 2 and 3, both by IP address and by
name. I can also ping the router's ip address fine. All of this
can be done on computers 2 & 3.
However, when I attempt to ping computer1, even from computer1, by ip
address or by name, there is no response. I can ping computers 2 &
3 from this computer by their ip addresses, but not by their names. I
can ping the router fine from this address.
Perhaps there is a conflict between the dynamic IP address acquired
for the internet and the IP address for the LAN?
Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks,
....John
