Can't Save A File On A USB Drive

R

Ralph K. Park

Using Win XP and Word.
When requesting WORD to save a file to a USB drive I get the window:
"Word cannot complete the save due to a file permission error. (name of the
file)"

Never open/save a file directly to/from removable media. Always copy/save
the file to your hard drive and use Windows Explorer to copy or move it to
the removable media.

I often save to a USB drive by doing file "save as" then browse to the USB
drive. Only problem is that the browse function within "save as" does not
see the USB drive the first time you try. If you close the "save as" window
and click "save as" a second time you are able to browse to the USB drive and
save your file on it. Doing "save as" twice is still easier than opening an
explorer window.

But it will be *safer* to save to your hard disk, and then copy to the
USB drive as needed. Saving directly to removable media tends to
corrupt files.
