can't run any exe files!

i can't run any programs, when i try to it comes up on the screen "windows
cannot find '____.exe'..." the exe files for the programs are there, but
aren't being recognized. i have tried all sorts of things, but anything
that has an exe file to run cannot on my computer.

the only exception is going to a wordpad document, for example, and opening
the file with wordpad. wordpad on its own won't run.

This is a side symptom of a virus infection. Make sure the system is clean
before proceeding. To fix the damaged registry info regarding EXE files,
use the EXE file association fix on this page:
