Many apologies if this has been well covered before now...

I am running Windows XP on a Dell Dimension desktop. I have the computer
setup so that I cannot initiate windows without typing in a password first,
and therein lies my problem. There has occurred a problem that has caused
the keyboard to not function, so I cannot type the password, enter Windows,
and restore the computer to a previous state of well being. I know the
keyboard itself is good, as I replaced it with a new one, and the problem
remains; also, if I enter "setup" as the computer is first booting up, I can
move through the BIOS stuff using the keyboard just fine. It appears to be
a problem only within Windows, and I would like to restore my computer to a
pre-problem state, if I could get in to "Restore" from the pre-Windows setup
state.

I know how to Restore the computer to the way it was when it left the
factory (<ctrl> <f11>) but I would like to avoid that if possible, I just
want to restore it to the most recent restore point.

Thanks for whatever help you can give.

With what you've described, I think you're out of luck. Perhaps
if you tried booting into Safe Mode?

Bill,
I once had a similar problem, so long ago I can't remember details,
my problem was with USB keyboard - would not work like for you - in
desperation I substituted this for an old PS2 keyboard and that did the
trick, don't know why, but it did.
hope this helps
