When I attempt to restart XP from the main screen, the
system does not allow a restart...it simply retains the
original screen and does nothing. Any suggestions.
Thanks.

Hi Alan,

See if the troubleshooters from MVP Jim Eshelman help:

Thanks for your prompt response. Unfortunately, it
didn't. Any other suggestions?

Hi Alan,

Well, the basic premise of Jim's troubleshooter (and it's a good premise) is
that the failure to shutdown is based on something installed and running on
the system. What you need to do is to discover what it is. Try this, hit
ctrl+shift+escape and end task on all applications. Try to shut down - does
it work now? If so, then one of the applications is the problem. If not,
continue on, this time ending some (two or three at most) of the lines on
the processes tab (system processes will not allow you to 'end task' on
them, so don't panic). Continue this process to discover what it is.
