Can't remove from Add or Restore Programs

I needed to reinstall Adobe Illustrator, only when I choose that option from
the Control Panel app, I am told the 'installer' experienced a problem and
shut down, so I was unable to complete the removal. I used another removal
app and forced the removal. I now have the original Illustrator file still
listed in the Add/Remove Pgm file in Control Panels. How do I get the WHOLE
thing removed? I've run Norton Utilities and registry repair. I want the
system clean before i reinstall.

Basically, just go to C:\Program Files and delete the Adobe Illustrator
folder if there. Then go to Start>Run type: regedit
click Ok and Navigate to HKey_Current_User\Software. Look for a Adobe
folder and delete if there. Same for
HKey_Local_Machine\Software. All you have in the Add/Remove Programs is
a shortcut to the Adobe Illustator Uninstaller so don't worry about that.

I have seen some utilities that list removing frozen items from the start menu
but I can't remember what they are.

I will tell you what I do but I don't recommend it unless you are very familiar
with the registry or have lots of balls. Open Regedit and search on
"Illustrator." (No Quotes.) Here is the hard part; you have to decide whether
to remove the data entry or some part of the hirachy. It's not that hard -
remove all keys and folders which refer to Illustrator only and stop when other
programs or elements are referenced. The first time is REAL SCARY. After
that, it's just old stuff. On big programs or when I have problems
re-installing, I always manually remove the references. If Wes replies he can
probly tell you exactly which key you have to go after.

Rich,
I followed your suggestions but I still see Illustrator in the control
panels "add or remove programs". The only place I see Illustrator
mentioned in regedit is under the Hkey_Classes_Root section, but I am not
sure whether to clear out all references there as well.

krdu,
I folled the above dirs from Rich Barry. The reference to Illustrator is in
my control panels-run or remove programs. Under what catagories in the
regedit section do you remove references?
