Can't Reload Internet Explorer 6 ....Help!

Some files on my internet explorer 6 were deleted. I tried downloading
internet explorer 6 and re-installing it, but I get an error message stating
that a "newer version of internet explorer already exists," and it refuses to
re-install the program. I'm having to use AOL to access the internet
(arrgh!!!).

How do I over-ride this feature and re-install IE6? Or any version of internet
explorer.

Thanks!

Hi,

Go to the Control Panel/Folder Options/View tab, set it to "Show hidden
files and folders" and uncheck "Hide protected operating system files
[recommended]". Also uncheck "Hide extensions for known file types".

Then, open Windows Explorer from Start/All Programs and go to the
C:\Windows\Inf folder. Locate the ie.inf file, right-click it and choose
install.

You may need to either insert your WinXP CD or know where your I386 folder
is located on the hard drive. You may also need to know where the
\ServicePackFiles folder is (usually under the Windows directory).

You are needing to modify the registry to be able to reinstall.

Manual: Start/Run/Regedit

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Active Setup\Installed
Components\{89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383}]
"IsInstalled"=dword: 00000000

Automated:

Enable Reinstallation of Internet Explorer or OE (Line 114)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

From there:

Automated Edit:

Run Command - Reinstalling Internet Explorer (Line 29)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

Manual Edit:

Then re-install IE - Go to Start/Run, and type :
"rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132
%windir%\inf\ie.inf"

Other than the above, what leads you to think you are needing to reinstall
IE? In the meantime, run this combo:

Run Ad-Aware SE, Spybot and HijackThis:

Note: Update each program, once installed, before running.
