I'm trying to reinstall windows xp home edition, and the
software hangs. It's a Dell system that is jazzed up and
I'd like to do a clean install. Any ideas?

Pat,
Do you have the full version or upgrade version of XP?
Do the following if you have full version and want to do
a clean install.

1) Get a Window 98 Boot disk. http://www.bootdisk.com

2) Boot the computer from the A:\. If you computer does
not boot to A:\, you may have to go into the system BIOS
and change the Boot Order.

3) With in DOS at A:\, type fdisk. This is to create you
partition.

4) Remove the primary partition.

5) Create a new primary partition.

6) Exit fdisk, At A:\, type format c:

7) When format is complete, Restart computer and boot to
Windows XP Boot CD.

Where and when does it hang and are their any error messages? I assume
jazzed up is some hardware upgrades, are you sure the hardware is compatible
or properly installed. Pull everything but the video, keyboard and mouse. If
setup completes, replace the hardware one at a time until you find the
problem piece.
You boot from the CD and do a clean install.
