Will this definetely completely re-format it? what screen will it show when it boots from disc?

the same as the one you see on the set up but without the box.
make sure you do a long format NOT a quick format? and yes everything will be deleted;)

Ok, how do i do it together:

  1. Turn on Pc, insert disc
  2. Dom i let it load all the way up, then shutdown & restart(with disc still in) then enter bios
or as soon as i turn it on insert disc, and enter bios?

sorry for being dumb, i have managed to do this before, believe it or not

There is a button on the keyboard ... Pause/Break ... you just know what I'm going to say ... press it when your computer starts, not too soon, not too late, and guess what ... your PC will Pause (but not Break), just press the spacebar to continue.

Or you could do it another way ... or even one more. :p

Start PC> Press apropriate key F2 normally enter BIOS set boot menu to first boot>CD ROM disable all the others hit F10 and save your settings>Put the XP disc in and away you go follow the instructions.;)

Ok, i managed to reformat the pc to XP pro, now i have another problem.

( I have to hdd on my pc, a 54.1GB hdd & a 3.0GB hdd, i think that when i first bought the pc, all the information regarding the OS etc were on the smaller one, and all other programs that i chose to install, were automatically chosen to be installed on the bigger hdd)

When i reformatted the pc, i went onto the net, downloading updates etc... and to my horror, it started to store all the downloads and other information onto the small hdd. I have no idea how this occured, but its really messing up my pc, any hints/suggestions/help/advice?

cheers

Are you sure you have two HDs and not one with two partitions?

I would have taken the 3 gig out ... or at least disconnected it.

Ah, yeah, i said i was dense, it has to be one hard drive & 2 partitions
Then your best bet is to start again ... this time, using the XP CD, to "delete" both partitions ... then install as before. :thumb:

3gig is only any use to Linux these days. ;)
