I am so frustrated, I was receiving my pop mail through Windows live mail but
I set up my Windows Mail to receive my pop mail and I finally figured out how
to send but can't recieve. It goes through Windows Live Mail. I took off the
receive pop mail through Windows Live. I shut down and restarted but no go.

I don't receive any messages that my mail is not set up right. Could someone
please help.

You seem to be confusing several things.
"Windows Mail" -- there is no such program.
"Windows Live Mail" -- which version?
"Windows Live" -- no idea what that is.

Please clarify.

Gary,

Your comment '"Windows Mail" -- there is no such program.' Well in my copy
of Vista it states quite clearly 'Windows Mail'

Windows Mail is what it says as the title. This appeared when I upgraded to
Vista
it acts like Outlook Express. If there isn't such a program why do I have
it, didn't have it before Vista.

Windows Live Hotmail is what it is called.

Hope this helps to clarify what I was trying to say.

My apologies. Of course there is a Windows Mail program, and it comes
with Vista. But it still isn't clear what it is that you are trying to do.
If you are talking about a Hotmail email address, that won't
work in Windows Mail.

However, there is a new version of Windows Live Mail that will handle
Hotmail. You can read about it and download the program here:

I know Hotmail doesn't work in Windows Mail. What I want to do is to be able
to receive my email from my website. It is not a hotmail account. I am able
to send
mail from Windows Mail but cannot receive my mail.

I have set up the Pop 2 and SMTP and that all seems to be ok, but can't
receive.

I guess if you can't help me I will have to try and uninstall Vista and go
back to XP for now.

Thank you,

OK, that clarifies things a bit.
I assume by "website" mail you mean the email address assigned to you
by your Internet Service Provider (ISP). Who is your ISP?

Do you get an error message after you click on the Send/Receive button?
If so, please copy that error and paste it into a reply here.

Gary VanderMolen

No, I don't get an error message at all. I have sent myself emails to my
hotmail account and I receive it. But when I send it back to the same email
address from
which I am sending from example: (e-mail address removed) to (e-mail address removed)
I do not receive it. It is going to my hotmail account where at one time I
had it directed there when I added it as a pop account. I took everything off
and directed
the emails to Windows Mail. I can't receive any emails not mine nor anyone
elses, on my (e-mail address removed) account.

Gary I appreciate your trying to help, I hope I am not confusing you more.

Thanks,

It sounds like something is misconfigured at the 'mysite.com' site.
Perhaps it is configured to forward everything to your hotmail address.

I'm not convinced there is anything wrong with your Windows Mail.
Do you have any other email accounts set up in Windows Mail, and if so,
do those other accounts function properly?

Apparently for reasons of privacy you don't want to identify the actual
names of the mail servers for 'mysite.com', but without that information
I can't do any further troubleshooting.

I have the same issues!! Cannot set-up pop3 e-mail! Neither send or receive!

Your server has unexpectedly terminated the connection. Possible causes for
this include server problems, network problems, or a long period of
inactivity. Account: 'pop.xipline.com', Server: 'pop.xipline.com', Protocol:
POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10053, Error Number:
0x800CCC0F

What antivirus are you running? McAfee and Norton antivirus are known
to be incompatible with Windows Mail. Uninstall it, reboot and try your mail again.
Once your mail is working properly, download and install the free
Avast antivirus, but be sure to unselect its mail scan option.

I saw somewhere on http://www.oehelp.com/ that after shutting off email
scanning in Norton that you have to then remove your account info from
Windows Mail then close and reopen WM and then re-enter your accont
information. Is the same true for a complete unistallation of Norton? I am
using Norton Internet Security 2007 --is the firewall compatible for Vista?
Before installing NIS 2007, I used a trial version of Norton 360 for 3 weeks
without any problems but 2-3 days after using NIS 2007 - I was unable to
send e-mails. I tried WML - it worked OK for a day and now I can't send
e-mails.Has anyone else using Norton 360 had problems sending e-mails?

Thanks........Mike

It shouldn't be necessary.
I replaced Norton with Avast without doing that.

Going by the experience of this fora over the last 3 months
I would say definitely not. At least, I wouldn't dream of using it
in a business critical situation.

Here are some peoples experiences with Norton 360.
The general impression is to steer well clear.

Thanks Gary,

I went and checked it out and yes, it was misconfigured. I feel so foolish,
but thank you for all your trouble and help. Hopefully all you told me will
help someone else.

Glad to be of service.

I replaced Norton with Avast without doing that.

But it is necessary some of the time (both Norton and McAfee will often
totally screw up an account sometimes).
