Windows Mail is infamous for loosing login credentials, and you have to type
them in again even if WM shows that it has them. Also, your ISP could have
lost your login credentials too. I have had that happen.

Make sure you have send authentication enabled. It is required
by your ISP.
Go to Tools, Accounts, select that account, Properties, Servers.
The box for "My server requires authentication must be checked.

There is nothing wrong with Sharon's credentials.

Maybe, you have not seen WM flat-out loose the credentials for NNTP or
POP3/SMTP, but I have certainly seen it happen on more than a few occasions
on Vista and not only with WM, but Outlook too on Vista with POP3 and SMTP.

I have also seen the ISP restore the user's credentials back to something
else he or she had previously, when the ISP had trouble on its end.

You're making some pretty big jumps here without knowing all the facts to
assume that there can be nothing wrong with someone's credentials.

Au contraire, the error message clearly and unambiguously showed that the
problem was not credentials-related. We responders have an obligation to
provide the OP with a resolution that is specifically related to the exact
problem they are having, which is why I always insist on seeing a complete
error message.

What do you think authentication means, other than, the authentication of
credentials cannot be verified or is invalid?

I didn't fall off the turnip truck yesterday.

I was pretty sure you had.

It is obvious you are not aware of the different places in the mail
protocols where authentication is used, one of them being the
SMTP-AUTH parameter often used with port 587.

I have a problem receiving email messages.
I have one account with Bellsouth.net, through my DSL service.
I have two email addresses, one for me and one for my wife.
I have Vista and Windows Mail on my laptop, with the account showing my emai
address. Works fine.
I just bought a new desktop for my wife, with Vista.
I set up Windows mail, using her email address, and the bellsouth
servers:mail.bellsouth.net.
From this computer, I can send emails fine.
But I receive emails sent to my email address, even though it is not in any
account.
I don't receive emails to my wifes email address, and there are messages
waiting when I checked her webmail account.
Strange.......
I removed Google Toobar, No success.
Any ideas?

On the desktop computer, go to Tools, Accounts, and verify that
the only email account shown there is your wife's. Then select that
account, click Properties, Servers, and verify that the username field
has your wife's email address.

I go to Tools, Accounts, and the only email address listed is my wifes. I go
to properties and servers, and the user name is the bellsouth user account
name for my overall email service that gets authenticated by Bellsouth. I did
try to put in my wife's email address and it didn't authenticate.

There is no way you can download your wife's email without her
username being on the Servers tab.
You have a problem with BellSouth. What good is a second email
address if you can't authenticate with it?

Gary,
Thanks for the help. I had my wife's user name and my password. I changed
the password and it worked fine.
Thanks again
Jay
