Can't receive email

Hello. For the last few days I have been unable to receive my email. It
prompts me for my username and password. I don't have my account set up that
way. I made sure that none of those boxes are checked in my account
information, but it still asks for that information. I get the following
error message :

Account: 'mail.comcast.net', Server: 'mail.comcast.net', Protocol: POP3,
Server Response: '-ERR invalid command', Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Server
Error: 0x800CCC90, Error Number: 0x800CCC18

Any help would be appreciated. This is very frustrating.

I don't understand your statement, "none of those boxes are checked..."
What boxes?

Go to Tools, Accounts, select that mail account, Properties, Servers.
Uncheck the box for "Log on using Secure Password Authentication."

If that was already unchecked, which antivirus are you running?
Some of them cause problems with Windows Mail over time.

I am sorry for the confusion. I never set up the account with a user name or
a password. I made sure all of those boxes were unchecked...including the
"Log on using Secure Password Authentication" box. It doesn't seem to matter.
I also tried making up a user name and password as a last resort, but it
didn't help either. I am running McAfee Antivirus software. I also downloaded
the most current version of Windows Live this morning to see if that would
help, but it did not.

How do you expect to receive mail without a username and password?
All mail servers require it. You can't just make up any random password.
The username/password has to be registered with your mail provider.

I have a username and password through comcast, but I have tried them and
they don't work either. I have never had to use username/password to check my
mail unless I go directly to the comcast webpage to check it, but not from my
own computer. I have never had any problems with it until now. I will contact
comcast, since they are my server, and see if I can get it worked out. Thanks
for your help.
