Can't read document

I created a document in Mircosoft Word 2000 and I saved it password protected
to a disc. I have worked on document numereous times and the last time I
tried to open the document, I couldn't. After several attempts, the file
opened without requiring my password but it opened where I can't read it
(document opens with a lot of "y" and other letters and symbols that I can't
understand) encrypted-maybe? I accidentially saved it this way on the disc
and saved a back up copy to the hard drive. Is there any way to get the
original Word document back. I've put a lot of time into this document and
(shame on me) I didn't backup the last few updates before the saving the
verison I can't read.

I HAVEN'T BEEN ABLE TO SLEEP FOR DAYS AND NOTHING I'VE TRIED SO FAR HAS
WORKED. ANYONE THAT CAN HELP ME RECOVER THE DOCUMENT WILL ALSO HELP ME SLEEP
BETTER TONIGHT!

PLEASE HELP!

See if Open and Repair makes it possible to read the file. If not, I suspect
that you are out of luck, unfortunately.

Note that saving to removable media tends to corrupt files. In the future,
save to the hard disk and then *copy* to removable media instead, for backup
purposes.
