Can't read Attachment

I have received an email with 2 .doc word documents attached. When I try to
open the first one, I opens wonderfully. When I try to open the second one,
it comes up completely in symbols. Both are microsoft word docs. Both are
from the same user.

When this user resent the second document, it still comes up with the exact
same nonsense symbols in place of the text.

Can anyone help make sense of this? Any clues

Are you sure that you have the same font the sender used?

I'm not sure. I will check. This is quite likely the problem as I noticed
that all the formatting seems to be dead on. Just each character is basically
random symbols.
