Can't reach common web sites? ("This page cannot be displayed")

I've recently had the problem where I couldn't reach some link but it's now gotten much
worse and today I can't even get to Ebay or even Google. Everytime I try I get the
"This page cannot be displayed". Once I saw this error message "HTTP 500 Internal
Server Error".

I've looked at my Hosts file and the only entry in it was the Localhost. Nevertheless I
changed it's extension so it no longer functions. Didn't make any difference.

Would someone give me some suggestions for troubleshooting this type of problem.

login.
