Can't Re-Install Client for Microsoft Networks

For whatever reason, the Client for MS Networks got uninstalled on my
home machine running Win XP Pro. When I try to reinstall it, I get
"Could not add the requested component. The error is: The RPC server is
unavailable." I have NO ROC server at home, and never did! I've tried
using the XP disc with the "Have Disk" option, but that doesn't help.
Extensive online searching hasn't turned up another case of this problem.

Help!

Did you ever disable DCOM to help cure yourself of blaster or a related
virus?

If I understand your question correctly, I believe that all components
that might be required are enabled.

Doesn't anyone out there know how to resolve this? I'm getting desperate
for a solution!
