Can't publish to IIS

G

Guest

I've successfully loaded IIS, which I can view with my brower at
http://localhost/. However, when I attempt to use that address to establish
a remote Front Page website to publish my web to demo ASP results, I get "URL
does not have Windows Share Point Service installed..." When I use the
remote file system address (C:/inetpub/wwwroot) FrontPage permits the
creation of remote web site, but when I attempt to publish I get the error:
"This folder is contained by a server-based website. To access the site you
must use the http://URL for the web server".

I'm obviously missing something. Can anyone help?

1. Never open a server based web via the file system.

2. Did you apply the extensions to the root web under IIS MMC.

3. If this is Windows 2000 Pro or Windows XP Pro, you can not remotely access the webs from FP, only
via the browser. You must have FP installed on this PC.

Thanks Thomas for the prompt response. I'm a newby here so bear with me
while I run through your list:

1. OK
2. No I didn't and don't know how to do that. I was under the opinion that
2002 extensions installed with IIS. I had opted not to instal extensions
2000 per the advise of the manual: MS FrontPage 2003 "Inside Out" appendix.
3. I do have FP instlled on my computer, and installed IIS from the Windows
XP Pro disk.

Again, what I want to do is test my ASP pages locally. So where do I
publish my web on my own computer to take advantage of the server extension
capabilities?

I would recommend that you uninstall IIS and the FP2002 extensions, reboot and then reinstall IIS
with the FP2000 extensions, once you know everything is working, then upgrade the extension to
FP2002.
