Can't print text as greyscale

I've tried changing the font color to grey, let's say 25%, the screen shows
it as changed to greyscale, but it always prints the text as black. When I
imported the text into Word Art it does print it in greyscale, so it's not
the printer settings. (I would use Word Art but it's limited to its own
effects which I cannot change.) What setting am I missing?

Thanks

Printers can be obstinate about this. I recall that my LaserJet 4 would do
it with one driver but not another. If you can find a different driver for
your printer (Windows vs. the manufacturer's for example, or an updated one
from the manufacturer), you might try that.

That's my printer too! I'm on XP by the way. No luck on either driver. so
far. I downloaded HP's Laserjet 4 and tried the Windows imaging printer. They
work but not for greyscale. Which one worked for you?

(So why would a printer be obstinate about font colour but not WordArt?)

Thanks, Sue

I haven't used that printer in a long time, so I don't remember the exact
details, and it would have been on Windows 95, so I imagine the specific
driver would be irrelevant to you (though I think it was upgrading from
Windows 3.1 to 95 that helped. I found that if I wanted gray text I could
use yellow instead. Make sure you don't have "Print colors as black on
noncolor printers" checked in Tools | Options | Compatibility (though that
should just produce grayscale rather than actually black).

Unchecking the box "Print colors as black on noncolor printers" resolved the
problem! Thank you. In the meantime, I found that saving the file as a pdf
file then printing the pdf also printed the greyscale just fine.
Finally! Good suggestion!
