Can't play MPEG files - unknown error

N

NE

Error# FFFFFFFB

This is the error message I get from the error summary
page, saying there is no more help at this time.

This is an error I get when opening most of my mpeg
files. I try to open it with any player, and I get two
popup warning windows which keep opening when you try to
close them. Both of them have MPL Loader in the title
bar, and here is what they say:

"The DLL "cpuinf32.dll" can not be loaded. OS reports: The
specified module could not be found."

"The DLL "mplapx.dll" can not be loaded. OS reports: The
specified module could not be found."

Once those popup warnings are chased away by clicking ok
as fast as you can, WMP just says an unknown error
occurred, and can't open the file.

Every other file type plays fine, it's just MPEG files. I
tried re-installing WMP 9 with the installer on MS's
website, but it hasnt fixed the problem. Is there
anything I can do to fix this problem?

Yeah - this isn't a Microsoft file... it's a broken 3rd party file...
http://www.nwlink.com/~zachd/pss/pss.html#cpuinf
covers how to fix it. :\

See http://www.nwlink.com/~zachd/pss/pss.html for some helpful WMP info.

Please delete this thread!

Please delete this thread or take my name off of the first post - it's showing up in google searches when I search for my name and I'd rather people see my portfolio site instead of this oooooold tech question.
