Problem is just what is stated above, every file / shortcut i place on the
desktop automatically goes to the "documenst&Settings/user/desktop" folder.
My reg reads fine and from what i can tell everything is as it should be. I
have XP home, and am running microsoft antispy ware an know it has something
to do with it. I've obviously blocked something that allowed it to change the
desktop settings. I have since uninstalled the progam and placed it back on,
checked my reg was in order and am basically just going uts trying to figure
it out.

There was a log file that Antispy ware had but it has long since been
deleted and i have tried blocking the shell user folder option as well as
other, yet i have still no solution.

ant help would be apperciated thanks

Ok so i got the icons to appear now...sorta, but now when deleting or adding
files to the desktop i have to right click and refresh manually to see them
appear or leave......what's up with that

K now things appear and dissapear when i place or delete them but i am having
to manually refresh (right click) to see them either leave or appear.....

Candyman,

If you're wondering how to check what is being blocked in Microsoft's
Antispyware,

* open it and click 'Tools' > 'Real Time Protection'

* start with 'Internet Protection' > 'View Blocked Events'

* repeat last step for 'System Agent' & 'Application Agent'

From what I read, you try to place a shortcut on your desktop (which is
located at C:\Documents and Settings\User\Desktop) but is not appearing on
your desktop. Are you seeing it inside Window Explorer at location
C:\Documents and Settings\Drew Tognola\Desktop?

Personally, I doubt it's your Antispyware settings.

Just an offhand thought - is the Desktop locked? Go to the Display
applet, Desktop tab, Customize Desktop button. From there, look on the
Web tab. Make sure nothing is checked, particularly the "Lock Desktop
Items" box at the lower left.
