Hi everyone,
I am running a chinese version of windows xp pro and my language setting for
non-unicode program was set to simplified chinese. However, all my desktop
shortcuts went missing after I changed the setting to english. I tried to
change it back to chinese, but no luck......
What's interesting is that all the shortcuts are still in the "desktop"
folder but they just don't showup on the desktop. I also tried to create some
new shortcuts and copy some files to the desktop, they just simply failed to
showup too. Another interesting thing to notice is that the four "standard
windows desktop icons" ("my computer", "Internet Explorer", "network
neighborhood","my document") are always shown on the desktop without any
problems.
At the time I changed the language setting to english, some of the shortcut
names and system registry keys (was in chinese) were changed to "?????", and
I manually changed them back. For example, the Desktop folder registry key
was changed to "h:\ Documents and Setting\user name\?????", I changed it back
to "h:\.....\user name\(desktop in chinese)". There were a few such problems
which I have changed back.
Is there anything that I forgot to do or any idears and tools to help me
from getting mad? Thanks very much for any of your helps!!!
