Can't open web sites after pop-ups

When I open CNN and several other like sites and get too
many pop ups I can't open additional web sites until I
shut down and power up. I am OK if there are no Pop ups.
I have no virus problem. What is my problem?

Hi!
if you use popup killer they won't pop up.The latest google toolbar has
popup block option.It's free and great to use.
