Can't open recycle bin

Since Monday, I have not been able to access my recycle bin. when I
double-click on the icon, the window opens, but cannot find the content
(which I know is in there). The little flashlight just searches...and
searches...and searches - like a little lost puppy in winter. It will empty
by right-clicking, and fill again (per the icon) by dragging stuff into it,
but can't seem to find it. Rebooting, and running the tool on line 64 at (
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm ) did not help. Any help would
be appreciated. Thank you!

I can use this to see my files in DOS, but my recycle bin on my desktop is
still not working properly. Can you help me with that, or should I repost,
please?

Hello V-Ger

Try this:

[1] Open a Command window and shut down any other running programs.
Ctrl-Alt-Del to open the Task Manager.

[2] In Task Manager look on the Processes tab and select Explorer.exe,
Click on the End Process button. (Your desktop and taskbar will
disappear and you'll be left with just Task Manager and the Command
window. Don't panic! :-) Leave Task Manager open and return to the
Command window.

[3] Now at the prompt type:
rd /s /q C:\Recycler <enter>
type: exit <enter> to close the Command window.

[4] Go back to Task Manager and on the Applications tab click the button
for New Task. In the box that pops up type: Explorer <OK>. Your desktop
should return to normal. Close Task Manager and reboot.

[5] When you return to Windows don't worry if the bin icon still shows
full. Put a test file in the bin and then right-click to empty it.
Hopefully now it should all be working.

Good luck! Do please let us know how you get on.

Nightowl,
Thanks for your help. I am keeping your notes in my file for future
reference...however, in this particular case, this didn't help me. But it is
definitely great info that I can use. Thank you so much. FYI: after trying
your suggestions and still having the same issue, I just let it search with
the little flashlight in the background and went about my work. When I
looked at it later, it had found nothing, but had finished searching. Then I
did an "empty" even tho' I knew there were only two short docs in it. It
took about 10 minutes to finish. After that, I was able to open it! It
still had the two docs in it, but I was able to really empty it just fine
afterward! Weird. But it works now. Maybe what you had me do just didn't
take effect right away!?! thanks! v-ger

Thank you, but I do not have the tab or other info mentioned in these
