CAN'T OPEN .PDF FILES - "...not a valid Win 32 application."

Joe Kirk News A

Friends often send me emails with .PDF mail attachments. If I click on the icon to open the file, I get an error code with the following message:

"...Local Settings\Temporary Internet File\Content.IE5\PAUD8NYJ\(then the file name) is not a valid Win 32 application."

I can open the file by saving it to my documents and then opening it with Adobe Bridge, but it's a little bit of a hassle, and it does seem to me that XP should be able to immediately open the file as though it were a .jpg file or something similar.

Comment? Suggestions?

Thanks as always,

- Empty your Temproray Internet Files.
- Close Internet Explorer.
- Uninstall whatever application (Adobe Reader, FoxIt, etc) you utilize to
read PDFs.
- Reboot.
- Install the latest version of whatever application (Adober Reader, FoxIt,
etc) you utilize to read PDFs.
- Try again.

Windows XP does not come with a native way to open PDF files - nor do I see
why one would expect that. Windows XP does not natively open .DOC, .XLS or
..PPT files either - although the same company (Microsoft) created the
products that do (Word, Excel and PowerPoint.) Some file types require
third party applications - and although there may be alternatives to the
full products themselves to open said file types - I don't know if i would
ever expect them to just open by default in any and all operating systems
without installing an appropriate viewer (at least.)
