Can't open Outlook 2007

S

safetymom

I get the error cannot start Microsoft Office Outlook. Cannot open the
Outlook window. Invalid XML, the view cannot be loaded.

I had a problem opening Outlook the other day. I created a new profile and
it worked until I rebooted my computer.

Any suggestions? Thanks.

I tried looking at the error log but the only ones I see is if I
accept/reject safe mode.

By the error log do you mean the application event viewer?

What version of Outlook are you using and what type of mail account do you
have?

Have you tried opening Outlook in safe mode? Start > Run > outlook.exe /safe

safetymom

Thank you. That worked. Why does that fix it?

The error mentions an XML file is corrupt - the only XML file outlook reads
at start up is the Navigation pane, which that switch replaces with a new
one.

Try starting Outlook once with the /resetnavpane command switch.

I have not had success with any of the suggestions.
Outlook (2007) will not open.
I have a laptop with Vista.
Message is: Microsoft Office Outlook has stopped working
A problem caused the program to stop working correctly.
Windows will close the program and notify you if a soulution is
available.

Next message (new window)
OUTLOOK.EXE - Application Error
The application failed to initalize properly (0x80000003). Click OK to
terminate the application.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

I've tried the resetnavpane switch but my computer keeps coming up with
"cannot find...make sure you typed name correctly..." My initial error that
came up is microsoft outlook 07 "cannot start ms outlook. Cannot open the
outlook window. Invalid XML, the view cannot be loaded." My OS is Vista.
Can you help?

Start your own NEW thread. Don't try to hijack someone else's

So sorry, I'm new at this. I guess you don't have the answer, but thanks for
helping me see that I am a "hi-jacker"

I've tried the resetnavpane switch but my computer keeps coming up with
"cannot find...make sure you typed name correctly..."

That's because you neglected to include the space between "outlook.exe" and
"/resetnavpane".

A

alaska

Thanks alot! That worked. I had the space but I took out the word "switch."
I thought that was supposed to be in there. I appreciate your help!

The reason Outlook plays stupid game is that Microsoft products are all faulty.
How can a company trust its emails in the hands of a bad application?
I can not wait to swuitch to another product.
Microsoft applications all have problems.

So, why don't you?
Microsoft applications all have problems.

There isn't a single non-trivial application that doesn't have problems, so
when you switch to your new product, be sure to complain about its probelms,
too, because it WILL have them.

Yeah, that was helpful ... not! I'm sure safetymom has been waiting those 7
months for your "solution".

Oh yeah, like it's Microsoft's fault that users **** up the software
configuration of their consumer-grade computers. If Microsoft wrenched more
control of your host to control its hardware and software configuration to
ensure complete compatibility of known applications and refuse unknown
applications and/or bad tweaks, you'd be screaming that Microsoft stole your
computer yet you think a general-purpose computer where users get to alter
its configuration should run as stable as a fixed coded television.

Lucky you. You could switch to Novell's Evolution now that there is a
Windows version and an easier install of it (alas, you'll still be stuck
with running Microsoft's OS but then Evolution also runs on Linux with Gnome
and you could suffer over there and bother that community). However, then
you'll have to deal with the bugs in Evolution along with all those missing
features that you extol are a must in whatever applications you use.
