Can't Open or Explore folders from the start menu

I've used google groups to look for this issue but can't seem to find
any solutions. I can see others have had the problem but no solid
solutions that I can apply.

I'm using Windows XP SP3, AVG, IE7. Not sure when this started of
course since I don't right click and open the start menu that often.
Could have started months ago. Matter of fact I only did it for the
first time today, probably since I loaded the system and rearranged the
start menus initially. It worked then of course.

Still open/explore options do not work on the right click. I can get
properties, rename, almost anything else. Searched around Kelly's
Corner and still can't find a patch. Appreciate any suggestions.

Hi Big_Al,

This might be a third-party shell extensions problem. Try "Method 2" here:

Right-click is slow or weird behavior caused by context menu handlers:

Thanks. I tried both suggestions and the shellxview program allowed me
to disable easily. Rather than shotgun or doing 1/2 at a time etc, I
targeted the 'context menu' items and disabled them all. This fixed
the problem. I later resolved it to a program 'web photo album' that
was defective. It was a relatively new install. Once uninstalled all
is back to normal.

Very interesting challenge and learning experience.

Thanks to both of you.
