Can't open my e-mails anymore but always could before

I have Outlook and have always been able to just double click on a new e-mail
when I receive one to open it and read it. For the last few days I haven't
been able to do that anymore. I tried using the help menu but nothing
worked. I tried changing everything I could that I thought might make a
difference such as what's under view, but nothing would work. I've never had
a problem like this before. When I double click on the e-mail I get a small
box pop up in the left hand corner with the options of file, view, tools,
help etc. but none of them will give me the option to open the e-mail. If
anyone has any suggestions I would be very thankful.

When you get that "small box pop up in the left hand corner" - can you
try to maximize this window; it might be your email message (in a
shrunken window).

If that is not the case, what do you see if you maximize that window?

Also, what is your version of Outlook?

If nothing else works, can you try to do a System Restore to a date
before the problem started?
