Can't open mail folders

I installed Outlook and want to import the old Outlook files. But when I
open it, it tells me it is unable to open default mail folders. It asks me
if I want to open default system folders. If I say "no", it closes. If I
say "yes" it appears to open something like Windows Explorer.

I go to Control Panel and find a Mail and Fax icon. I open it and see some
stuff which could easily be correct.

How do I get Outlook to look like Outlook so that I can import the old files
and settings?

What version of Outlook are you using, and if 98 or 2000, what mail support
mode? If you're not sure, look at the second line of Help | About Microsoft
Outlook -- it should say "Internet Mail Only" or "Corporate/Workgroup".
(Outlook 97, 2002, and 2003 don't have separate modes.)
