Can't open database objects

Hey folks --

I have a database with some objects (reports, queries) that I can't
open. I get an error "You don't have permission to read <object>".

When I look at 'Tools -> Security -> User and Group Permissions...' the
user is set to 'Admin', and Admin has none of the permissions checked
for any of the objects listed. When I try to change permissions, I get
the error "You can't change permissions for <object>".

Am I not Admin, and as such, don't I have permission to change
everything? If not, what user can change these things?

You are correct when you think you are Admin, however, your database
has been set up with another system file besides the one you are using.
Correctly so, in any security environment, the Admin user would have
all of its permissions revoked and an application admin user would be
handling the security of the application.

Find out who created the application and set up the security to obtain
a copy of the appropriate system file. System files tend to end in
..mdw.

Hope this helps.

Mr. Mike

I did the same thing that lawpoop did, but I AM the admin. I was trying to
create user accounts, and when I tried to open the database up again, I get
an error saying "You do not have the necessary permissions to use the
(filename). Have your system administrator or the person who created this
object establish the appropriate permissions for you."

HELP!!

Same thing happened to me. The database is looking at some default mdw
instead of the mdw that I set up. I have to go to Workgroup administration
and press the join button, then browse for the workgroup file that I created
in order to use my database. Won't default to the right one anymore.
