Hi



I am using Outlook 2003, previously used 2002 / XP.



I have one PST file (2002 format) that seems to have got corrupt. I moved
half the content over fine to a new PST (2003 format) but a number messages
give me the following error "can't move the items. could not complete the
operation. One or more parameters value not valid".



I then created a new PST file (2002 format) and just copied the messages
over - it created the folders ok but no messages, right at the end I got the
following error



"Can't move the items. Unable to move or copy folders. Can't move folder.
A top-level folder can't be moved to one of its sub folders. Or, you may
not have appropriate permissions for the folder. To check your permissions
for the folder, right-click folder, and then click properties on the
shortcut menu"



I have no permissions set and was not copying a top level folder to a sub
folder.



my final attempt was to import from one PST (2002 format) to another PST
(2002 format) it seems to work, but checking the import and no messages are
there - and strangely no error!



so ... before people ask ...



I have done a compact and scanpst > which gives the following result.



"Internal errors were found in this file. They must be repaired for this
file to work correctly." - 29 errors and 5315 items



So I click on repair and off it goes ... and then quits and in the log I see
the following :

emails no problem. However I just want to move them into my main PST!

I have tried a number of other methods to import this PST into thunderbird,
convert to mbox etc to see if that would help - but they all seem to use OLE
to connect to Outlook and so it always fails. its so annoying that i can
read the emails fine, so its odd the file says its corrupt yet it works
fine.



One thing I had read about is this >
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/829346/EN-US/ which was recently added. Now
as I use 2003 and not 2003 this service pack is not needed ... however if
you scroll down it talks about the above issue - and I do remember something
about certs ages ago being an issue with me in Outlook 2002. Would going
back to 2002 and installing this service pack and then resaving everything
then work in Outlook 2003 ? Installing 2002 again is going to be a right
pain in the bottom! :-(



So any outlook gurus out there ? ideas

Do you have any indication what folder/message gives you the error? Try the
following as well;
-run scanpst.exe
-clear your Deleted Items folder
-run Compact Now
-run scanpst.exe again.
-create a new 2003 formatted pst-file
-move it to the new pst-file

I followed what you asked and got the some issues as in my original email -
imported into a new 2003 format PST and or also tried copy / moving into
that same PST. Same errors.

OK have redone everything with Outlook in safe mode and still get the same
thing ....

Its a very odd problem :-(

I have the same problem; except it was caused by an accidental delete of all
my *.pst files by our (brilliant) IT group when they were upgrading us from
Novell to Windows Server.

I recovered all the pst files using the Recover My Files software. Every
file it found it recovered and all imported in fine except one. When I
repaired it, I was left with some items in the file that give me the same
exact message as relayed by Paul. I can copy and paste in the same (bad)
folder, but not out of it. I can't save the messages out, I can't move them
to another folder, I can't export them, etc. etc.

Restarting Outlook in safe mode did not help. Please help us!

my final attempt was to import from one PST (2002 format) to another
PST (2002 format) it seems to work, but checking the import and no
messages are there - and strangely no error!



so ... before people ask ...



I have done a compact and scanpst > which gives the following result.



"Internal errors were found in this file. They must be repaired for
this file to work correctly." - 29 errors and 5315 items



So I click on repair and off it goes ... and then quits and in the log
I see the following :

I assume this means it has failed ?



I have this PST loaded separately at the moment and I can open and
read the emails no problem. However I just want to move them into my
main PST!

I have tried a number of other methods to import this PST into
thunderbird, convert to mbox etc to see if that would help - but they
all seem to use OLE to connect to Outlook and so it always fails. its
so annoying that i can read the emails fine, so its odd the file says
its corrupt yet it works fine.



One thing I had read about is this >

added. Now as I use 2003 and not 2003 this service pack is not needed
... however if you scroll down it talks about the above issue - and I
do remember something about certs ages ago being an issue with me in
Outlook 2002. Would going back to 2002 and installing this service
pack and then resaving everything then work in Outlook 2003 ?
Installing 2002 again is going to be a right pain in the bottom! :-(



So any outlook gurus out there ? ideas

Some more info ...

I remember with me ages ago, I was getting lots of Outlook XP warnings about
digital certficates having expired, but I had never used one! - I think I
un-installed Outlook XP at the time and reinstalled and I never saw the
messages again.

I have also installed as Outlook plugins early versions of a RSS reader and
plaxo.com but I can;t see that being a problem.

Also if I open the a few of the emails that will not move (not all of them
have this - but most) they have a weird content in the BBC field, if I hit
reply on those messages shows the the weird BCC content. Like Squares, and
sometimes my email address at the time. I never use BCC so why i thought
strange.

If these PST files are working normally, and just i can;t move around - then
are they corrupt ? if these files would not open I would give up and say
fair enough - but thats not the case.

all
my *.pst files by our (brilliant) IT group when they were upgrading us
from
Novell to Windows Server.

I recovered all the pst files using the Recover My Files software. Every
file it found it recovered and all imported in fine except one. When I
repaired it, I was left with some items in the file that give me the same
exact message as relayed by Paul. I can copy and paste in the same (bad)
folder, but not out of it. I can't save the messages out, I can't move
them
to another folder, I can't export them, etc. etc.

Restarting Outlook in safe mode did not help. Please help us!

To start Outlook in safe mode;
Start-> Run; "path to outlook.exe" /safe

I followed what you asked and got the some issues as in my original
email - imported into a new 2003 format PST and or also tried copy /
moving into that same PST. Same errors.

Open those specific items and choose Edit-> Edit Message. Now type a space
in the message (or modify it in a different way) and choose to save it. See
if you can move it now.

I remember with me ages ago, I was getting lots of Outlook XP warnings

I did that, even added some text, and still won't move. I can drag the
message and make a new contact and into a task just fine; but I can't move it
out of the folder.

Open those specific items and choose Edit-> Edit Message. Now type a space
in the message (or modify it in a different way) and choose to save it. See
if you can move it now.

tried a load of things, editing message, making it read only, looked at the
headers, nothing in that message was odd - and also did not have a corrupt
BBC field. Tried the same with one that did ... sorry but still the same
issue! ... so are you now stumped ? ;-)

I assume this means it has failed ?



I have this PST loaded separately at the moment and I can open
and
read the emails no problem. However I just want to move them
into my
main PST!

I have tried a number of other methods to import this PST into
thunderbird, convert to mbox etc to see if that would help - but
they
all seem to use OLE to connect to Outlook and so it always fails.
its
so annoying that i can read the emails fine, so its odd the file
says
its corrupt yet it works fine.



One thing I had read about is this >

added. Now as I use 2003 and not 2003 this service pack is not
needed
... however if you scroll down it talks about the above issue -
and I
do remember something about certs ages ago being an issue with me
in
Outlook 2002. Would going back to 2002 and installing this
service
pack and then resaving everything then work in Outlook 2003 ?
Installing 2002 again is going to be a right pain in the bottom!
:-(



So any outlook gurus out there ? ideas
