Old computer: XP + Outlook 2000
New computer XP + Outlook 2003

Created "outlook.backup.pst" file and copied to to a cd.

Got the following error message when trying to import the file to the new
machine:
"do not have permission required to access the file"\

Any help will be appreciated

Select the .PST file. Go into Properties and uncheck the
read only option.

When you copied it to disk it most likely saved it in read
only. Check the permissions and make sure read only is
unchecked before copying it again.

When copying any file to a CD, the file is automatically
given a "Read Only" attribute, which cannot be changed on
the CD. Outlook wants to be able to write to a .PST file
and therefor will not allow use of a read only .PST. So,
after copying the .PST file from the CD to it's new
location, (On the local drive or Server), right click on
the file and go to "Properties" and uncheck the "Read
Only" attribute. Then click on "OK". You should now be
able to access the file via Outlook, granted that the file
is not password protected.
