Can't logon to my computer 2

I posted a problem I am having with logging on to my computer a couple days
ago and the solution that I have recieved thus far have not worked. The
original post is at this link:

http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/...eral&mid=1f75e5f4-894f-4d8a-a240-418cd82c6573

I attempted to use the Shift + F10 loophole in the XP Installation Repair
process. When I entered the command console and typed NUSRMGR.CPL at the
command prompt I recieved a "User Account" message that stated the following:

"The current user account is not recognized. Restart the computer and then
open User Accounts."

Since I can not log on to open User Accounts, this message offers no help to
me. Has this happened to anyone else and how would I go about resolving this
problem (if possible to resolve on my own,) short of having to re-install the
OS and losing the existing data on my computer? Would a data recovery
service be needed (or is that a bit overboard for the current problem?)

Thanks in advance for any input and thank you to those who helped with my
previous query.

First, many people use OE Newsreader to read posts (or some newsreader other
than the online version), and it is very difficult to read posts from the
online version. It is very slow and even with a 17-19" screen very
confining. That may be why you have not gotten results.

Second, the Administrator account at BIOS level has nothing to do with
Windows XP.

Third, have you tried using Safe Mode Command Prompt and when prompted to
enter Administrator account (or User account), enter Administrator and when
prompted for password, chose hit Enter?

If that has failed, you can download a utility: Reset Administrator SAM
password that will wipe out the Administrator password so that you can login
with no password.

Search Google for Reset Administrator SAM password. The file I have is for
Floppy but I'm sure you can download a CD version.

http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/cd050303.zip CD Version
http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/bd050303.zip Floppy Version

Follow instructions from web-site.

Also, I suggest you create yourself a Restore Password Disk, under User
Accounts, Prevent a Forgotten Password

To backup the data install the drive in another XP or Windows 2000 computer
as a slave drive, then copy the important data. Always, always have a full
and complete backup.

I posted a response to your original message. Did you try anything I
posted? What were the results? It's hard to help you if you don't stay in
the same thread and give feedback on what happened with the suggestions
provided.

I thought I posted a reply. Anyways, I did try all of the advice, but no luck.

NewScience,
Thank you for your input, but so far it has not helped. My computer is
simply not reading the cd which has the password editor on it (I have
re-ordered the boot sequence in BIOS so the cd-rom is first, but that has not
helpd.) I am leaning towards Rock's suggestion and simply installing the
drive on another machine. Still looking at the "Reset Administrator SAM
password" search results. hell I needed an new computer anyway. Thanks
again.

Have you found a fix for this problem, I have the exact same problem with no
good answers.

Here is the error message
The current user account is not recognized. Restart the computer and then
open user accounts
Running XP HOME with SP2 and all critical updates.
When the welcome screen comes up, there are no users/icons to click on in
order to logon to each individuals desktop. There is more than one account on
the machine and some individuals have passwords. I can use the ctrl+alt+dlt
method at the welcome screen and it comes up with the classic login style.
When I type in a username and passowrd it will logon on as it should to the
particular user/desktop.
I cannot access User Accounts via the Control Panel. I get this msg "The
current user account is not recognized. Restart the computer and then open
user accounts". I did however type in "control userpasswords2 " in the run
box which allowed me to adjust user account settings. Users Must Enter a
Username and Password to Use this Computer is checked. I added a new account
with my name and set it up as administrator. On the advanced tab there is a
secure login checkbox. It says "For added security, you can require users to
press ctrl+alt+dlt before logging on". That box is checked.
I have done a repair reinstall, reset my administrator password with ERD,
typing , run nusrmgr.cpl won’t open user accounts.
And the real problem is Installing any new programs on this pc, some don’t
complete correctly. I have searched and found this problem before with all
questions and no answers
