Can't log on... help!

Hi All,

I was working on my sister's PC, which has Win2K. It is not networked, but
her son had set it to require a password to log on. I turned off the
password requirement, putting in the admin password to verify, and all
seemed ok. Rebooted, and now it won't let me log on. Says password is
invalid, and gives me logon box. I have tried every username/password
combination on the machine, and it won't take anything. I don't know a lot
about Win2K, and I have Win98 so I can't play around and see what is going
on. Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks,
Honeybee :)

So, you are asking us how to crack Microsoft security???
I believe you, but what proof I have you just not trying to break into
someone else computer?
Can you enclose picture of your sister and signed affidavit?
If not, bad luck.
Reformat the drive and install Windows again.

If you aren't going to post anything helpful, don't post at all. I'm not
asking for a way around the password, I'm asking what went wrong and if
there is a way to fix it.

It's really hard to say. there is so many variables of what took place. But
you can get the key by:

Trying this:

http://www.magicaljellybean.com/keyfinder.shtml

That will get you the key code. If it has OEM in it well it's OEM. Use only
an OEM CD to install a new OS. It is the only thing I think you can do
besides going through the hassle with Microsoft. As long as they have proof
of ownership and proof of purchase, I personally wouldn't worry about it.
The only additional bit of advice that I can offer is the norm for setting
up a system is to set a complex password on the primary administrator
account and make a second administrators account with a complex password to
be used only if the primary cannot be used. Write down both and place them
in a safe location, preferably a fire safe. An then add users with the
rights each should have. These are all standards from micorsoft for W2K.

Good luck,
good computing,
don
