Can't log into server console

I recently applied a rremote installation of VirusScan to a Terminal Server
application server running W2K SP4. Should have done it manually, in
ad-remove mode I guess, because now I cannot log into the darn thing through
console or terminal or anything. Reboot does not help. I get an error 1000
"Cannot unload your registry file" I have tried killing the installation
exe, but it does not help. Any idea how to recover from this situation?

This error is usually caused by a program that has an open handle on your
registry, block profile load/unload. Boot up in safe mode, and uninstall
VirusScan. When you install it while logged in, if you can't log off then
download and run UPHClean, this will clear open handles. If you download
Handle from www.sysinternals.com, you can view open handles.

Tried safe mode, still cannot log in. There is a brief popup error when I
attempt a login, but I cannot read it (it is too fast). I have tried
UPHClean, that claims to be unloadng handles but I still cannot log in. I
can't even get the thing to boot from CD to re-install the OS. Any other
ideas?

What if you choose "Last known good configuration" at the F8 menu, can you
login then?
Or you may have to boot to the Recovery Console and manually copy the
registry backups.
