Can't Log in to secure websites

I recently upgraded my Internet Explorer to the 6.0
version.I wanted to check my email so i went to
www.hotmail.com and tried to login but after i entered my
details it went straight to a " this site cannot be
displayed " page. I think it could be something with my
Javascript settings because i've tried other sites that
use it and they dont seem to work either. I checked the
java settings in security settings and they were enabled.
What should i do ?
