I am using Windows ME 2000 and had been using WORD 2000.
Starting just recently I am unable to OPEN the WORD
software. After clicking on the WORD icon, a box appears
on the screen indicating that WORD is being loaded, but
then everything freezes. Keyboard is frozen. Even
entering CNTL-ALT-DEL twice does not enable me to shut
down the PC. After hitting the three keys many times, I
finally am able to shut the PC off.

Comments? Should I re-install WORD? Should I uninstall
WORD first and then install it again? What else?

Thanks for comments.

The suggested link was not appropriate for me as it
pertained to OFFICE 2000 whereas my WORD 2000 software
came as part of WORKS SUITE 2000. I did find the problem
to be a corrupted NORMAL.dot file. Next task --- learn
more about that file and what I may have done.

I seem to recall previous posts indicating
that problems arise when one uses Word
from Works Suite because the incl'd Works
macro is inelegant. In other words, try
removing the Works macro (from Word's
macro list) and relaunching Word. I don't
have Works so I can't attest to the accuracy
of this approach. I have seen it mentioned in
past 2-4 weeks in this newsgroup.

Good luck.
