I am ready to scream! I dealt with the msblaster worm a few months ago
installed all my updates, and activated my firewall. A few weeks ago
had problems with the power supply to my F drive and took it in fo
repair. When I got it back. I had to reload my software. I hav
loaded Norton's 2003 anti-virus software. But when I try to open th
application, it pops on the screen for less than 30 seconds and befor
I can do much of anything it is gone.

When I login to the computer I get the message that it is starting u
in Diagnostic or Selective Startup mode. I have gone into msconfigur
to try and reconfigure this and this also only stays "up" for less tha
30 seconds.

I am also getting the RPC service terminated unexpectedly error like
did with msblaster worm. I ran the Stinger program and it foun
nothing. I also ran the fix it program for msblaster and welchia an
found nothing.

Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Melind

Melinda,

You have other variants running umuck here. Is easy to remove the Selective
Startup; however, that doesn't seem to be the focus needed at this time.

Did you install the patch for msblast after removing it? If not, run the
edit listed here:

Close Windows Explorer, run the edit on line 257 which includes the prompt
for the patch once your system has been cleaned.

This script removes all variants of the W32.Blaster.Worm (original, B, C, D,
E and F) and will inform you whether or not the patch is already installed.

Other than that, there are specific worms/virii that disable msconfig and
much more.

If you think all is clean and clear, run this edit:

EXE and LNK Fix for Windows XP - Line 12

To use the Regedit: Save the REG File to your hard disk. Double click it
and answer yes to the import prompt. REG files can be viewed in Notepad by
right clicking on the file and selecting Edit.

Lift Restrictions - TM, Regedit and CMD (Line 275)
