Can't Install XP Cleanly

S

Steve

I bought a new barebones computer system and tried to
install Windows 2000 to no avail. I kept getting errors
that it couldnt' copy some files (never the same files)
during several installation attempts. I though I might
have bad media so I bough XP home edition and tried that.
I still got a few can't copy errors but the install did
finish. It's so unstable and my apps keep shutting down
all the time. I tried to update my install and I keep
getting the can't copy errors on at least 2 files but
they're never the same. I went online and did the
diagnostic test on my hard-drive, moved my 512MBddr chip
to the other slot, and even tried installing from another
cd drive and I still have problems. Could my motherboard
(Elite) be incompatible? Could I have a bad memory chip?
I thought it'd be a good learning experience to put this
thing together but I'm at my wit's end. Any insight as to
potential fixes would be greatly appreciated.

I have encountered this same problem. I created a small
dos partition of about 500MB first. This seem to work for
me.
