Hi
I am trying to instftware for my new Epson 2100 printer. When I insert
the Epson CD, I get a message saying
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The system file is not suitable for
running MSDOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Choose 'close' to
terminate the application. I get the choice to 'Close' or 'Ignore' and
close is the only option that does anything. I have tried to Explore the
disk and click setup.exe but the same message comes up. Any help
appreciated.

Return it to the shop and buy a decent printer.

Start>Run and type in this without the quotes:
"cmd /c copy /y %windir%\repair\autoexec.nt %windir%\system32"

Hi

Please see if the following article helps:

"Error Message When You Install or Start an MS-DOS or 16-Bit Windows Based
Program"
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=324767

Thank you, that sorted things. I reckon an earlier repair ended up with
the relevant files being in a directory called repair. Followed the
instructions at the site and all is now well.

That's good Ian. Glad you're sorted. As you say, the 'autoexec.nt' &
'config.nt' files can be copied from the windows\repair folder to the
windows\system32 folder. That will save having to use the XP CD.
