problems running some applications since xp sp2

I come across this really strange problem that's bugging the hell out of me.
I've inserted a couple of programs and tried to auto run them, the first is
the driver disc for an epson 1290 printer and the second a graphics type
program called printmaster. They won't run, a window opens which is headed
'16 bit windows subsystem' Under that it says the following:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\AUTOEXEC.NT. The file is not suitable for running MS-DOS
and microsoft windows applications. Choose close to terminate the application.
HELP!!!!!
