Can't install PhotoPlus X2

V

Victek

I'm trying to install an image editing software called PhotoPlus X2, which
claims to be Vista compatible. However, when I run the setup.exe I get a
Windows installer error 1619. I'm running Vista Business SP1 x86 and I'm
logging in to the desktop with an admin account. Updating the Windows
installer to version 4.5 didn't help. Any thoughts on how to remedy this?

Try the cnews.corel.com groups. I (Vista home premium 64 bit) run it
without any problems. Also google for "Windows install error 1619"

How about contacting THEIR support?

Right click on setup and try "run as administrator".

Can you install other software or is this now a general problem?

ERROR_INSTALL_PACKAGE_
OPEN_FAILED 1619 This installation package could not be
opened. Verify that the package exists and
that you can access it, or contact the
application vendor to verify that this is
a valid Windows Installer package.

I would contact the vendor for another copy of the installation package.

Another potential issue can be caused by permissions as per
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/316309

I'm trying to install an image editing software called PhotoPlus X2,
Support from Corel? Of course there is always the question if Victek has a
legal version?

JimF
Yes, I have a legal version and I've also contacted them via email. I
thought I'd ask here too, while I'm waiting for a response from them. I
guess it could be a Windows problem, but I've installed many other programs
and this is the first time for this particular error.

Thanks for the suggestion. Yes, I've tried the "Run As Admin" option and
get the same error message. I'm currently dual booting Windows 7 RC1 along
with Vista. I was able to install PhotoPlus without problems in Windows 7,
so I know the software is not corrupted. I have no problem installing other
programs in Vista, and in fact installed a new version of a security
application today, so I know the OS is not messed up. I also installed the
Windows Installer Cleanup tool, but it doesn't help since the problem is not
a failed partial install - there's nothing related to PhotoPlus to cleanup.

FYI, PhotoPLus X2 is a Serif product, not a Corel product (you're probably
thinking of PaintShopPro Photo X2).

Folks may be interested to know that a solution was found for the problem.
A serif employee in their PhotoPlus forum suggested trying to install the
program from the command line, and provided the necessary "string". If it
can be determined why this worked when the normal GUI install wouldn't I'll
post the explanation.
