Can't install IIS on WinXP Pro

I'm supposed to have IIS on Windows XP Professional. I've gone through the
installation process (Add Windows components, left options at default) but it
always "hangs" and I have to close it (it says "not responding"). I've
recently wiped my computer, and that hasn't rectified the problem.

There's no Internet icon in the Admin tools of the Control panel, so it
obviously hasn't installed.

What am I missing?

If this is a clean install of XPpro, you'll need all of
the drivers you OEM has for that system, in order to do a
satisfactory install, and get up and running on the
networking area. What brand of PC is it?

What is on this PC hardware wise?

IIS- Unless you are a corporate user, you will only need the
basic corefiles and basic web service provider. You may not
need anything else. Initial install will take up to 10
minutes, and should be done without any AV or security ware
installed.
