Can't install IE6 SP1 to XP Home Edition

I am having a problem reinstalling Internet Explorer

Adaware was installed and IE 6 functionality stopped with an indication that any web site going to was unavailable. Uninstalled Adaware and problem still present so uninstalled IE and downloaded/installed IE6 SP1 multilple times which all indications are install successful. The "C:\Program Files\internet explorer" directory/subdirectory is created and populated but there is no iexplorer.exe there or anywhere else. Try again and install says later version already present so set registry "IsInstalled" = 0 and reinstall will the same failed results everytime.

Update - I have copied IE6 SP1 files from another computer then reinstalled again....again....again and IE runs but still can't access any websites whether using http https ftp etc. Have gone thru many KB articles to no avail. It can't be the TCP/IP settings as Netscape 6 works just fine.

The file name is IEXPLORE.EXE (note no R.)


Rule out parasites.
IE 6.

Try this: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing
Uncheck the Enable 3rd party browser extensions

If this clears your problem then find out who the culprit(s) is/are with
these tools.
