Can't install Direct X

Catz

Hi,
I've just installed WinXP home onto a blank HDD. and I'm
having trouble installing Direct X.
Installed XP no problems...got all updates...installed
Via 4 in 1 drivers....then latest drivers for graphics
and sound.
Now when i try to install Direct X it looks like it's
installed, but when you look in the Directx folder the
setup folder is empty. Setup folder contains 0 folders
and 0 bytes?

I've tried installing from Microsoft site, game cd's and
cover cd's but get same result each time?
Can anyone help ?

mainboard....MSI MS-5690
CPU..........AMD XP2000
VGA..........MSI FX5600
RAM..........512Mb PC2700
HDD..........WD800BB/Maxtor 4D040h2
Audio........Onboard C-media

Open XP's "Help and Support" and type: DIRECTX , and hit enter.
Then click on "Troubleshooting DirectX".

Hey Thanks for the rapid reply.
Trouble is i'm so used to Win 98 i didn't really know
what i was doing!
If i type:-
dxdiag
from run command Directx starts up just like it should do.
Cheers
