can't install a av program?

Getting message a av already on machine. Did everything and deleted all I
could. One in the reg. that won't delete. Had MacAfee and now trying to
install Norton.

Usually all AV's leave traces in the registry. Some AV may object to being
installed with such entries being present. You will need to remove these
manually (if you know what you're doing - look for instructions for the
appropriate registry keys in the AV website) or indeed you can use a
registry cleaner program.
