Can't insert row in Excel

P

Pam

My coworker can't insert a row in Excel 2000. When he
tries to insert a row into his spreadshheet, he gets an
error that says "To prevent possible loss of data,
Microsoft Excel cannot shift nonblank cells off the
worksheet. Try to delete or clear the cells to the
right......"

I got KB305568 off the support site and did what it said
(clearing data from unused cells to the right and below
the data), but it doesn't work. I still can't insert a
row. Can someone please help me? Thanks! Pam

If it's any comfort, I get that every so often, and I've
never figured out what to do about it. I hope someone
takes the time to explain it to both of us.

Thanks, Don....actually, when I was working on that
spreadsheet problem, I didn't want to save the workbook,
because my co-worker wasn't there to verify whether there
was anything 'important' that he just didn't realize was
in that area of the spreadsheet....once I was able to
follow ALL the instruction, including SAVING, as you point
out, it worked just fine...

There was, indeed, one formula, WAY down in the very last
possible row (65,656 or whatever row that is) that he had
no idea he had created....and since the very last row is
the very last row, there was NO room in the inn.....to
insert yet another row. So, thanks!!!! It worked!!! Pam

Clearing data will not do it, you need to go to the correct end of data then
select all columns to the right, right click, Delete Columns, then select all
rows below, right click, Delete Rows, Save

Have done that myself -- when copying a formula accidentally copy it after
hitting End then the down arrow.
