Can't import OE files into Outlook HELP!!

I've got a back-up from a couple of days before my XP PC turned to a cinder,
I've also got the HDD from it.
My new PC runs Vista ultimate, and Office 2007.
I want to use Outlook as my Mail program.
Following the Windows Help files I've copied the "Outlook Express" folder
from my old HDD onto the desktop of my new PC.
Windows help does not give any instructions for PC's that don't have OE on
them, but "Windows Mail",. so I've had to search for the "Maintainence tab"
which is not in the same place as in "OE", I think I've found the right one
though, continuing to follow the instructions 10 to 12 goes OK, but at 13, I
get the message that the chosen directory is not empty (of course it isn't!
that's where my old messages are, which is the whole point of this exercise!!)

How on earth do I achieve what I set out to do?
In my simple mind, it was a fairly routine task that must be faced by many
people daily!!!
Microsoft, "big fat zero" for user friendliness!
Someone help me, it's driving me daft!

If you used Outlook Express on the old computer, see

Thanks Frank, but your link only serves to confuse me even further.

What I want to do is use "Outlook" as my mail handling program.

I have established a connection between Outlook and my pop3 server, and now
want to restore all my "in", "out", and "sent items" boxes from OE to Outlook.

I am not sufficiently competent to be making Registry changes, nor should it
be necessary for me to do this.

Why is the only option available, to migrate from "OE" to "Windows Mail"?

I don't want to use Windows Mail.
I have paid for Office 2007, and expect it to be a simple process to migrate
to Outlook without involving me in the equivelent of brain surgery.

Surely there is a simple way for non technical people to do this??

Thanks Gary!
Sorry to have posted in the wrong place!
I've transferred to the forums in your link.
Hope I can get answers as quickly as here!
Thanks to all

Import them into Windows Mail. Then you can export them to Outlook.
