Can't import msg file

Just ran across something that I hope can be fixed. I have a number
of saved ".msg" files that I nee to import into Outlook (2003). These
files were created using "Save as..." from Outlook 2003 on another
machine and selecting the option to save as ".msg".

The files import as they should when I drag and drop them into
Outlook. However, I managed to break one of them and I don't know how
to fix it. I decided to open it with Notepad to take a look at the
headers and other info. I did not edit anything at all. Didn't touch
it. I simply scrolled up and down and, out of habit, hit "ctrl-s",
which save the untouched file. To my surprise Outlook refuses to
import the file now. I get a message that reads:

"Can't copy the items. Can't open file: D:\Temp\Saved emails
\Boat.msg. The file may not exist, you may not have permissions to
open it, or it may be open in another program. Right-click the folder
that contains the file, and then click Properties to check your
permissions for the folder."

I took at file that I had previously imported without any issues and
did the same thing to it: Open with Notepad; do nothing; save.
Outlook refused to import the file.

To be clear, Notepad was closed completely at the time either file was
dragged and dropped into Outlook.

Any ideas on how to fix this? I can't get the original msg file any
more...

MSG files are binary, with albeit easy to read portions of text.

Notepad does *not* save binary. It saves pure text. By hitting save, you
are, essentially, breaking the file.

Your workaround is to copy the message from the other machine.

In the future, personally, I'd simply copy the messages to a PST file, move
the one pst from the old box to the new, and then just open the PST.
